Titanium

Hello all! You know here at Signs of Reilly we have seen some spectacular yacht and boat signs/names and with this blog we like to talk about yachts names or boat names when we can – for whatever reason people always have interesting names, sometimes we get the back story and sometimes we don’t. When we don’t we look up the name and see what we can find and that’s exactly what we did today with this beautiful Axopar named “Titanium” strong  boat name right? Well keep reading…. naming your yacht Titanium is not a bad idea!!!!

There are several things that are special about titanium…this metal is a very durable metal for engineering applications because this metal is corrosion-resistant and also this metal is strong and light. It is 40% lighter than steel but as strong as high-strength steel. Titanium is not a very precious metal when you compare it to silver or gold, but if someone is shooting at you and you have a wall to stand behind that is made of Titanium is would be considered the most valuable item in your life….so yes but no haha.

When alloyed with other metals such as aluminium or vanadium, titanium becomes dramatically stronger than  many steels. In terms of sheer strength, the best titanium alloys beat low to medium grade stainless steels! Who knew?! BUT the highest grade of stainless steel is definitely stronger then any titanium alloys.

The price of titanium is usually cheaper then white gold. However, because of its hardness, titanium is not as easy to work with. For instance , the additional labor costs may make the price of a ring comparable to that of a white gold one (or even higher).

The cool thing about titanium is its resistant to corrosion in sea water & chlorine – the two most useful properties of the metal are corrosion resistance and strength to density ratio – the highest of any metallic element!

Yacht name “Titanium” we did on this gorgeous 28′ Axopar
